Seaside Convention Center will showcase social services Jan. 29 at the ninth annual Project Homeless Connect event.

Open to all Clatsop County residents, Project Homeless Connect (PHC) helps people learn where to find food, shelter, clothing, health insurance, medical care, identification and much more.

People can receive a free haircut, warm meal and clothing, says Viviana Matthews, deputy director, Clatsop Community Action (CCA). Some health services are also provided:

    • Eye checks
    • Immunizations
    • Medical screening
    • Veteran Services
    • Education
    • Employment
    • Dental checks, fillings and extractions, on a first-come, first-served basis at the Providence Seaside Hospital dental van.

Sunset Empire Transportation District offers free bus rides all day Jan. 29.

Matthews says 43 agencies will be represented this year, which includes volunteers from Clatsop Community College, Tongue Point Job Corps Center and high school leadership classes. More sponsors support the event this year. Sponsors are Providence Seaside Hospital, Columbia Memorial Hospital, Coastal Family Health Center, Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, Sunset Empire Transportation District and CCA.

A nationwide homeless count is required by government-funded housing agencies in the last 10 days of January, Matthews says. PHC is an avenue to collect data and to serve the population in need with services that are available to all county residents. Social service agencies benefit by connecting with each other and seeing what each is doing to better serve the community, she says.
