Share a Valentine and support a local cause

Valentine Safe Teen Driving frontValentine’s Day is the one-day set aside each year when we celebrate love and romance – that great emotion we share with that special someone in our lives. It’s that one day when we do something a bit more than say “I love you.” It’s the day we put it in writing and do it up in a big way, as a romantic expression of our love; beautiful long-stemmed roses, hand-dipped chocolates, romantic, candle-lit dinners. And on that day, we have the chance to express our love and feelings of friendship with others who hold a special place in our hearts by exchanging traditional valentine greetings. And this Valentine’s Day, if you really want to let someone know how important they really are, why not say “I love you” in a special way.

“Love Drives Me” is a campaign sponsored by Lum’s Auto Center and National Foundation for Teen Safe Driving that lets friends and loved ones know just how important they are with a loving message that is reinforced by a commitment to safe driving. It may not sound like the most romantic valentine, yet a promise of safe driving could be the most important thing you can do for someone you love.

Here’s why: We know that car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States. We also know that tragically, most of those crashes could have been prevented. Now think about some of the most important people in your life. Your child? A parent? A dear friend? Could you ever imagine your life without them or their lives without you? So this Valentine’s Day, let them know how important they are and how much you care by saying “I love you” and affirming your love with a safe driving promise. And we’ve made it easy!

Go to, create and send a Valentine with a personalized, loving message by simply completing the phrase, “Love drives me to… “. It’s that easy. And after you’re done, you can share the love by casting a vote to award Way to Wellville Clatsop County a grant of up to $5,000.

Way to Wellville Clatsop County’s mission is to support and create programs that educate and encourage healthy lifestyle choices to improve the long-term health of our community. The primary focus is on mental health, substance abuse, physical fitness, community heath, and healthcare accessibility. These programs are designed to help reduce high-risk behaviors in our children that are associated with disease, disability, and social problems including drug abuse and crime. This grant will support the program to reduce underage drinking and driving thru the Oregon mORe Projects.

The campaign runs through Valentine’s Day. Please help us raise awareness of this important cause by going to, and give someone you love the best Valentine’s gift ever…a promise to always drive safely. Together we can make a difference.
